Commercial Kitchen Exhaust & Hood Cleaning FAQ
Common questions about commercial kitchen exhaust services
How often does a commercial kitchen hood need to be cleaned?
It depends on your cooking volume and type. Most restaurants require quarterly cleaning (every 3 months) per NFPA 96. High-volume operations using solid fuel or charbroiling may need monthly service. Lower-use facilities like churches or seasonal kitchens may qualify for semi-annual cleaning.
How much does commercial hood cleaning cost?
Hood cleaning service cost depends on system size, grease buildup, and number of components. General ranges: Small systems (1-2 hoods): $350-$500, Mid-size systems (2-4 hoods): $500-$850, Large or multi-hood systems: $850-$1,500+. What's included in a kitchen exhaust cleaning service?
A full DDAN exhaust hood cleaning service includes: hood canopy and plenum cleaning, grease filter cleaning or replacement, complete kitchen ventilation system cleaning from hood to rooftop fan, exhaust fan cleaning, thorough written documentation, and a detailed service report for your records.
Is a filter cleaning the same as a full hood cleaning?
No. Filter cleaning only addresses the grease filters inside the hood. A full hood cleaning covers the entire exhaust system — hoods, plenums, ducts, and fans. NFPA 96 requires full system cleaning, not just filter service.
Do you clean rooftop exhaust fans?
Yes. Rooftop exhaust fan cleaning is included in every full hood cleaning service. We clean fan blades, housings, and motor areas to restore airflow and reduce fire risk. We also inspect grease containment systems for exhaust fans and recommend grease pad replacement when needed.
What are access panels and hinge kits, and do I need them?
Access panels are kitchen exhaust access doors installed in your ductwork every 12 feet and at every turn to allow proper restaurant compliance cleaning. A rooftop exhaust fan hinge kit allows your upblast fan to tilt open safely for restaurant fan cleaning access. Both are required by NFPA 96. If your system is missing either, we provide hinge kit for kitchen fan systems and access panel installation.
How do I know if my system is NFPA 96 compliant?
DDAN performs a full system inspection and provides a detailed report noting any compliance issues. We document everything with written recommendations so you know exactly where you stand.
Do you offer emergency or same-day service?
Yes. We provide 24/7 emergency professional hood repair services for critical exhaust system failures, including commercial kitchen hood repair and restaurant hood fan repair. For scheduled cleanings, we typically book within 1-3 business days.
Do you work with fire suppression systems?
Yes. We install and service UL 300-compliant fire suppression systems as part of our restaurant exhaust system installation services. We coordinate with licensed fire contractors for new installations and handle ongoing maintenance, inspections, and recharges.
What areas do you serve?
We serve all of Middle Tennessee, including Mt. Juliet, Nashville, Hendersonville, Goodlettsville, Lebanon, La Vergne, Smyrna, Gallatin, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Brentwood, and Bellevue.
